Val's Steak and Kidney Pie

 

Makes 10 individual pies

 

 

Ingredients

 

 

Filling

 

1k beef

300g kidneys

4 onions

5 cloves garlic

salt to taste

 

Pastry

 

250g suet

500g plain flour

a little salt

 

Method

 

 

Cook all the filling ingredients in a pan with a little water, you don't need a lid. Simmer for as long as possible. Leave to cool.

Mix all the pastry ingredients together and then add water gradually to make a dough, knead till smooth

Grease the pie dishes with butter, line them with the pastry and put the filling in. Cover with a pastry lid with a slit in it to let the steam escape.

Bake at gas mark 7 or 220c for 25 to 30 minutes.
