Bangladeshi fish cofta curry
Ingredients for Kofta
1.2k minced chital fish (you can buy this frozen from Bangladeshi shops)
2 onions chopped very finely, or blended
1 1/2 teaspoons cumin powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons mild madras curry powder
1/2 teaspoon chilli powder, or to taste
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/3 bunch fresh coriander, finely chopped
1 green chilli, finely chopped (optional)
3 eggs, beaten (optional)
Oil to deep fry
Method for Kofta
Mix all the ingredients together and shape them into small balls. Dip them into beaten egg if you like and deep fry until dark golden. Set aside on absorbent paper
Ingredients for Curry
3 tablespoons oil (you can buy this frozen from Bangladeshi shops)
1 onion finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, or to taste
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoons mild madras curry powder
1 teaspoon chilli powder, or to taste
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon sugar
2/3 bunch fresh coriander, finely chopped
2-3 green chilli, chop them if you like it hot, leave them whole if not
3 tablespoons plain yoghurt
salt to taste
Method for Curry
Heat the oil and fry the onion and garlic briefly. Add spices and sugar and fry on a low heat for about 10 minutes, until the onion is soft. Add the chillies and gently place the kofta in the curry. Add hot water to nearly cover the kofta, the yoghurt, salt and chopped coriander. Simmer for 5 minutes.
